In the lead up to the last round of the series last weekend I spent a lot of time on my bike and was back feeling confident ready to race. My mum and dad had never seen me race a BMX Supercross event or a major BMX race in years so I loved having them in the stands supporting me :)
My goal for the event was to go back to basics do the processes and focus on my weaknesses…..& the outcome will just happen! Arielle Martin (USA) and myself were battling it out in the first 3 rounds progressing through into the semi final. I was having great starts all weekend and with some fresh new Pearl Izumi stiff carbon shoes I knew I was in contention for the win.
I placed 2nd in the semi final behind Arielle Martin progressing into the final. In the final I had lane one getting out strong with my team mate Melinda McLeod into the first turn. I was in 2nd place when I left the inside open and USA's Brooke Crain pushed me wide off the track, having to brake and slot back in the pack,s finishing in 5th place. I was hoping to remain in the top 3 in the overall World Cup series but Columbia's World Champion Mariana Pajon stepped up to 3rd and I dropped back to 4th.
Overall I am happy with the how the 2011 season has gone…many lessons learnt, opened my eyes, dealt with injury, have been overwhelmed at times & had many great experiences and memories. I am now staying in the States for about 5 weeks to compete in the ABA BMX National series collecting World ranking points.
