Racing at arena tracks week in week out wears on the current AA pros. DC's Dwayne Taylor had the idea to change things up and hold a fun race at Randy Stumpfhauser's backyard trails. The track has two lanes and a lot of effort was put into preparing the trails for the race.
With the weather being on the skeptical side, some of the SoCal riders didn't drive the 5 hours up North to meet at Stumpy's. They should have. Everything was taken care of and that includes a killer track, a DJ, free lunch, $1500 singles for the winner (by DC), champagne for the top three finishers and $250,= USD checks for fastest qualifyer and for the 2nd place finisher (courtesy of Shimano).
We stole Pete D. 's race report and used the pics that Hector Gallardo sent us:
The rain held the start of the race up just a few minutes, but it was well worth the wait. A totally fun atmosphere where all riders, win or loose had a great time and loads of fun.
16 Pros took to the course and Mike Day was the fastest qualifier, with Randy just behind him. It made for a great final as Randy and Mikey met up, with almost a tie in the first race. Just as the 2nd race started the rain stated and the guys took off faster than any other lap. Stumpy used his home court advantage to pull past Mikey down the last strait, but slipped a pedal before the last jump and some how, still crossed the line in first, even though it may have been while doing a front flip. Both guys were stoked at the end of the race, and DC and Dwayne Taylor especially, put together one of
the best events in a long time. DC and Shimano threw in the prize money.
Thanks to all who out on the race, for a great day at the races!
