2020 is keeping me updated on what's happening in Australia at the moment and around this time of the year (their summer), that's a whole lot. Sitting behind the computer getting a magazine together while the rest of your friends are out riding is rough. Add to that a couple of weeks of hospital and head surgery and you understand that life wasn't pretty for editor Matt Holmes. But BMX is strong and is motivating. Matt's drive to finish the mag was bigger than anything else resulting in a fine issue of 2020. Inside you find Heavy Metal Heroes, a
Nitai photo profile, Shreddin' lives article, Who the fuck is
Alex LiIv, Bio's with
Ron Rampton, Jed Mildon, Abelardo Vargas, Malcom Hanslow and
Garreth Hedfield. Video and music reviews, how-to's, 2 pages of product reviews, 'zine lookback, photo section, news pages, spot checks and most Australian jam and contest reports. Yup, it covers the Australian BMX freestyle scene
really well so if you want to learn more about it, get your hands on a copy (or subscription) of 2020BMXmag.
BdJHere's a little update on the Australian scene that came in from Clint Millar, the cover guy of 2020 issue 23:
Ryan Guettler down under update Guettler Signed Black PearlGotta have wheelsRyan Guettler recently saw his first Mirraco Black Pearl LTD bike in Australia at the Mirraco dealer, Helensvale Cyclescene on the Gold Coast. Mitch who runs the store, asked if Ryan could sign the bike for them & he happily obliged. Ryan has also recently bought himself a nice little run around car whilst here in Australia. A 5.7L Holden Monaro, black of course!! Imagine the car here but in black… not bad for a run around car while back home for a few months ! Ryan found his signature bike in a bike shop
Ryan Guettler & the whole Colony team (
Dave Freimuth, Pete Radivo, Kenny Raggett, Nick Richardson, Haimona Ngata & myself -
Clint Millar) will be in Sydney for the BMX Games after we hit up the Spinal Disorder in Beenleigh later this month. We all then head over to NZ for a tour of the south island for a week before going to X-Air in Wellington. Should be a great month of riding & travelling & all will be documented on a tour DVD as well as stories in both Ride UK & 2020BMX. The DVD will be released around June this year.
