Relived Day 12. '24 USA trip. Beach, burritos and Beers!

All this time we'd been staying just around the corner from Sheep Hills. With no big plans for Sunday, another morning run was decided on, to Sheep Hills. On the way there along the riverbed the cops had arrested a homeless man, I saw a Pelican, and one of the homeless people rode past me at full speed on an electric bike! I wondered how he charges that thing.

I got to Sheep through a back entrance. It was muddy but I knew where I needed to go. Made it there and saw the puddles in between the jumps. It wasn't rideable but it didn't look too bad. A few days later more rain made sure that a quick fix was out of the question. It's a bummer for all the workers and riders that they have to deal with this during the winter months. Sunday morning and a sunny day. I decided to leave Sheep via the Costa Mesa side. I'd never checked that area as we've always parked at the gas station or came pedaling from HB from that direction. Phone in hand I thought I knew where I was going but oftentimes I ran into dead ends, or fenced off areas, or it simply didn't work out as I had planned it. The 45-minute run turned into 90 minutes with lots of walking. On the way I saw all sorts of things and places. Dainese/AGV was there (never knew that), there was. a skate store which has ramps outside (chained up on Sundays I believe). Surron? Check. Graffiti/mural? Check. Saw the green Roadtrip Nation RV and many cool looking cars on their Sunday morning ride. Vacancy Coffee sounded good, only to find out they had no warm drinks that morning. oda instead for me. Deus was already open. Got the story on the bike that was on display inside. Back to the hotel for a shower.

With no real plan for Sunday we decided to do some groceries and cruise over to Sancho's for lunch. We had to do Mexican again before going home the next day. Seems like all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for 2 are around $40 bucks for each meal. What happened to the $3 Taco Bell meals? We simply enjoyed the sunshine, walked Main street, enjoyed the classic cars there, went to the beach, the pier and sat on a bus stop looking at cars and surfers passing by for an hour or two knowing that the next day we'd be on a plane for 11 hours with no sun or fresh air.

The good thing about big lunches is that sometimes we just skipped dinner. Andy Zeiss was back in town from MC-ing a Nitro Circus show in Costa Rica. Him and Mike de Wit met us at the beach for more sunset action and a Modelo or two. I know it's illegal but a sunset with friends and beer simply is better. Them houses on the beach are damn nice too but with a price tag of $10-$15 million a piece it will never happen. When it was dark we walked across the street back to Solarena and started pre-packing for Monday's trip back home. One more night in the twin bed with Philip.
