The council involved in freestyle BMX contest? In Rotterdam the city is organizing a huge sportsevent for children aged 12 - 20 years. For the first time this year there will be held a BMX jam also. Just riding along with kids of your own age. Students are working on a simple course and some badass riders will be there to show off. For those good kids there wildcards to be won for The Final Battle.

It's for free, and kids you don't have to life in Rotterdam to join!

BMX-ers have had their fair share of trouble with FMX-ers in the past. Let me recall the Troy McMurray vd Metal Mulisha battle that escalated at one of Todd Huffman's events. As in every sport there are good guys and bad guys. The good FMX-ers (read trouble free) have found themselves a gig at the Hardcore Freestyle Motocross tour that travels Europe at the moment. The first stop was in Antwerp, Belgium this weekend and FATBMX took a look.

Live Nation is the company that puts on the 3 stop tour. Frankly, it's a show and the people who are coming to the stadium pay around 30 bucks to be entertained.

Doug Martin has been hired as the new Director of BMX Programs at USA Cycling. The Director of BMX Programs position was created to help clarify and communicate processes and guidelines by which BMX athletes and teams qualify for competitions. BMX will make its debut as a full-medal sport at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Martin brings to USA Cycling more than 14 years of professional team management experience, including work with GT Bicycles, Nirve Sports, as well as World Championship and Olympic teams. “In addition to an intimate knowledge of the BMX industry and community, Doug brings a tremendous amount of experience organizing and managing international programs and teams,” said Director of Athletics, Steve Johnson. ”The addition of BMX to the Olympic Games is an incredible opportunity for both the sport of BMX racing and American cycling in general.” 

With the Olympics coming up (2008) it's up to the riders to score UCI points for their national federation. The more points, the more riders from that nation are allowed to race in Beijing. Dutch hope is in Afro Bob's hands. He did the utmost at the UCI points race in Las Vegas this weekend. Good job Bob! Here's the full results:

Only from the mind of Kevin Porter would a concept of the Ratty Bike Fest come. The second annual Ratty Bike Fest went down in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this past weekend at 4 Seasons Skatepark. Kevin got the idea during a typical contest run a few years back where he was competing against 4 of his friends. None of them cared about winning..they just wanted to have fun. Kevin realized that this was the key ingredient in having a successful BMX contest. Kevin felt that competition took away the fun. So he devised a 4 man team format in which teams competed against each other. The key being that you have a 4 man team and you all work together to shred. Last year Ratty drew huge crowds and some amazing riders and for the 2nd year things got even bigger. Riders from Florida, Canada, Colorado, California, Ohio, NY, Georgia, and even Washington state, all converged for a smashing good time all in the name of BMX.

We (me and Joey "BirdFlu" Hill left DK on Friday and headed up to Milwaukee. I knew there was a lot of chaos going on up there so we drove really fast and made the 8 hour trip in about 5 1/2 hours.

There is also a very nice bonus section with Mirra, Harrington, Cranmer interviews and bonus riding with Rob Darden and co. The only thing I dislike a little is the lack of riding noises. The music choises are great but some more authentic noise would be cool too..... But still Sentenced to life is worth having it in your dvd rack - espacially for watching Mirra's and Cranmer´s part.

NEW YORK – March 23, 2006– The Dew Action Sports Tour, the first season-long professional multi-sport tour for action sports, today announced its pre-qualified athletes for the 2006 season. “The pre-qualified athletes for the 2006 season qualified based on their 2005 final Tour rankings, showing that the Dew Action Sports Tour has successfully created the true season for action sports, complete with context that crosses over from year to year,” said Aileen Koprowski, Director of Competitions. “We also hope to discover new Skateboard, BMX and Freestyle Motocross talent through our open qualifier competitions and wild card spots.” Athletes are pre-qualified for the 2006 Dew Action Sports Tour’s first stop, the Panasonic Open, based on their rankings at the end of the 2005 Dew Action Sports Tour season. Depending on the discipline, between 10 and 20 athletes are pre-qualified.

Athletes who are not pre-qualified may qualify for the Panasonic Open and Right Guard Open, the Tour’s first two events, in one of the following ways:

– Monterey, California – So far in 2006, GT Bicycles’ 16 Expert Joey Bradford has picked right back up where he left off in ’05 after winning his first ABA NAG#1 title last November at the ABA Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After, the Grands, the head honchos at Pacific switched Joey from Mongoose to GT. Before his GT debut in Reno, Joey switched up tire size and changed crank length, which gave him some gearing problems. Reno was a start to the year that Bradford feels wasn’t quite up to snuff. Of course for Joey, with a second and third in 16 Expert, anything less than a win is sub-par. Joey made up for it with a 16 Expert double in Bakersfield including a great high low pass between Sowers and Woodmansee to take the lead in Saturday’s 16 Expert main. A couple years ago, to make things a little more challenging, Bradford started racing a Mountain Bike in cruiser. Bradford busted out his brand new GT MTB, powering it to a pair of thirds for the weekend. Not bad for a bike that’s at least 10 pounds heavier than the competition.
