One week ago, The HUB opened Ruben Sanchez & Gaston Francisco's exhibition OJO X OJO. OJO X OJO (standing for "an eye for an eye") is a collaborative project by the two Barcelona based artists. Ruben Sanchez showcases here a selection of his artworks, from drawings, paintings to graphic designs. On the other hand, Gaston Francisco decided to take us around the world with his camera, exhibiting shots taken during his several travels. The meeting point for both artists was to give a personal view on different subjects such the idea of portraits and the MACBA museum in Barcelona.
Students from Rio Rancho High School (Rio Rancho, NM) claimed top prize on Wednesday, May 30, 2011 at the Vans Custom Culture Art & Design Showcase at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Rio Rancho’s four Vans shoe designs were initially chosen from nearly 900 submissions across all 50 states and with the top honor, Rio Rancho High School receives a $50,000 grant towards the school’s art programs. Rio Rancho High School was also honored by Journeys with a $5,000 contribution for winning the “Local Attitude” award for creating the shoes that best represented their home turf.
Creativity and innovation dominated the students’ shoe designs, transforming four themes - art, music, action sports, and local attitude- into four striking pieces of original art. The judges panel included skate legend Tony Alva, musician Jordan Buckley of Every Time I Die, tattoo artist Oliver Peck (Spike TV’s Ink Master), actress AnnaLynne McCord (The CW’s 90210), and designer, television host and author Whitney Port.
Vans Custom Culture, Vans’ nationwide art contest, wraps up the public voting phase of the program this Thursday at midnight EDT. Until then, we ask the public to help choose the five schools that will have the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles to participate in the final art showcase and the chance to win up to $55,000 towards their art programs. After more than 900 schools initially entered this year, a panel here at Vans whittled that number down to the 50 top schools who are now vying to be one of the five finalists.

When it's time to get another FATBMX ad together for one of the core BMX magazines out there, I browse through my latest photo folders to see if I can use some pics to slap one together in no-time. With the balloon bubble style FAT logo I'm always searching for a picture that works with that. With the 040BMXPARK now open it has been easy to get recent pics during the wintertime. So many good riders stop by in Eindhoven. But the contest season is about to kick off and we're hitting the road soon. Enjoy the FATBMX ads.
