It rained cars and dogs the night before the event but the Sugar Hills have proved they can take some water. In fact, without water the trails fall apart pretty quickly so no worries there. The day started with blue sky and apart from a few clouds it stayed that way during the day. Not too hot, not too cold, perfect weather for a jam. It is impossible to create a good vibe. Even if you try your hardest it does not always work out. Once Frans Swinkels and Andy Zeiss returned from the AH XL with hundreds of Euros worth of meat and beer (thanks Eastpak!!!), the BBQ was fired up. If you have free beer and free food for all the riders, "staff", Sponsors, DJ-s, and everyone else who made it over, you will have friends. While the riders had started ripping up the Killer jump, more and more people showed up. Core FAT-JAM fans from Cologne, a crew from Belgium, an awesome Dutch delegation and even a rider from New Zealand!! Karl Bensemann and his lady had made it over to the Sugar Hills for the good time. He had a feeling what to expect and wasn't disappointed.
The Killer jump was working out great. 1.70 meter high with a dirt landing. Perfect to try out some tricks. Joeri pulled his first flips ever on the jump and was hella stoked. "Money for nothing and the chicks for free." Pim van den Bos pulled the first ever double backflip at the FAT-JAM, semi-Aarle-Rixtel local Ricardo Moes did 360-s and crankflips, Boy span around, Daniel Wedemeijer 720-d the killer jump and Mark Vos was tipping his nose while doing three-sixties. Anyway, for the crowd that are not used to seeing any of these stunts, it was a great day.
The pressure free session lead to the Snafu 8.6 race. After a succesful first edition last year it was time to bring it back. We'll report on the race in a different update so get ready for that mayhem. For some reason the atmosphere was great. It just turned into a good time. Catching up with friends reminiscing about 20 years of FAT-JAMs, checking out the riding, and just hanging out. I'll shut up now. Enjoy the pics and thanks for coming out.
