X Games Minneapolis revealed today the sports disciplines and athletes automatically invited for its 2019 event on XGames.com. Medalists from X Games Minneapolis 2018 who have sport disciplines returning in 2019 will receive an early invite to compete in the X Games Minneapolis 2019 event. In a repeat performance from last year, the BMX pioneer rode late into the night giving the massive crowd confirmation that he is still at the top of his game. Though it rained for most of the day in Minneapolis it wasn’t enough to hamper competition as crews worked a low-tech, but proven strategy for drying the vert ramp. Using leave blowers to evaporate the moisture from the wooden composite, by the time the riders lined up for competition conditions were suitable for take off. And for the legendary Jamie Bestwick it was his first run that launched him onto the podium.

Rallying the giant crowd atop the 14-foot ramp he pumped his clenched fist in the air and dropped in with all the power and excitement of a man who has dedicated his life to the progression of BMX riding. Starting things off with an alley-oop turndown, Bestwick then set himself up with a no hander before launching into two of the biggest tricks of the evening with a Superman down whip into a massive alley-oop 540 that he spun off axis, essentially flattening out during the rotation. Mixing up the rest of his run with unique tricks like a candy bar and a fast-plant flair it was clear that the he was not ready to hang up his bike just yet. Between his timeless style, consistent height, and trick selection it was undoubtedly a podium worthy run.

When his score came in at a solid 88.00 you could see him nod his head in approval as if to say, “I’ll take it.”

Heading into the second year as a host city for the summer version of X Games, ESPN, Sports Minneapolis and U.S. Bank Stadium have reached a two-year extension agreement to host X Games Minneapolis through 2020. “Our first year in Minneapolis proved what an incredible fan experience X Games at U.S. Bank Stadium can offer and we are excited to build on that success over the next three years,” said Tim Reed, vice president, X Games. “Minneapolis and U.S. Bank Stadium have quickly established themselves as a destination for the world’s top sport and entertainment brands and we look forward to building off of a terrific first year in Minneapolis.”

The inaugural X Games Minneapolis came to an explosive end on Sunday as 27,000 fans packed U.S. Bank Stadium to cheer on the world’s premiere action sports athletes. With finals for the Fruit for the Loom BMX Dirt, Toyota Men’s Skateboard Park, Dave Mirra’s BMX Park Best Trick and the gravity-defying Real Cost Moto X Quarterpipe High Air followed by a spine-tingling performance by legendary local music act Atmosphere, Sunday was one for the books.

Day three at the inaugural X Games Minneapolis displayed the embodiment of the action sports lifestyle as over 40,000 fans passed through the gates to witness the worlds best skateboarders, BMX and Moto X riders battle it out in the name of X Games glory. Action kicked off with the Toyota BMX Park Finals where Kevin Peraza took the win on the smooth transitions of the custom built course. Between massive airs, a stylish  360 tail-whip to table top and a technical 360 nose manual on top of the quarterpipe feature, the 22-year-old from Tucson, Arizona took his first ever gold in BMX Park with a score of 90.33. Monster Energy congratulates James Foster for his gold medal finish on the mega ramp at the inaugural X Games Minneapolis. This was Fosters first ever gold in BMX Big Air, an event in which he had placed third in two previous attempts. After a cancelled event last year in Austin due to severe weather, the BMX Big Air returned taking center stage on Friday night at the US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. Without having to deal with the weather elements, and rallied by the cheers of a rowdy crowd, riders were afforded ideal conditions to take this one-of-a kind event to new heights. Taking the highest single score out of four attempts, the guys were judged on amplitude, style and technical difficulty.

On June 9-10, the world’s top athletes took over Rhodes Skate Park in Boise, Idaho to secure their invitations to X Games Minneapolis. Over 7,000 fans witnessed six Men’s Skateboard and BMX athletes and four Women’s skateboarders punch their tickets to Minneapolis. In the final competition of the day, the BMX athletes upped the amplitude in the park with a mix of flips and whips. X Games rookie Nick Bruce surprised the crowd by taking the top spot in front of perennial X Games BMX Park medalists Daniel Sandoval and Kevin Peraza. Bruce qualified first in the elimination and rode that momentum all the way through the final. Sitting in second place behind Sandoval, Bruce threw a run highlighted by a huge downside flairwhip in the final run of the competition to seal his spot

The world’s premier action sports competition debuts July 13-16 for its first year at the new U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The event will feature an all-encompassing youth culture experience, including more than 200 of the world’s best action sports athletes competing for medals and prize money in BMX, Skateboard and Moto X disciplines. In addition to the sports, the X Games interactive youth cultural festival, X Fest, and world-class musical performances from A Day To Remember on Friday, July 14, Flume on Saturday, July 15 and Minneapolis’ own Atmosphere will also be part of the event. All three musical performances will take place at the Commons stage, located outside U.S. Bank Stadium.
