most artistic flair on Sunday January 25th at the Foot Locker Flatland Competition. Taking place from 6PM on Sunday night in what is commonly described as the ballet of Freestyle BMX, Flatland riders will compete over style, balance, flow and co-ordination. Audiences can expect to see all sorts of theatrics as Australia’s best flatland riders spin, bounce and roll under bright lights and laid back hip hop beats in the Foot Locker arena.
The Final day of competition on Monday January 26th wraps up with the hugely popular Backbone BMX Dirt competition. This is definitely an event characterised by the daredevil antics of Freestyle BMX’ wildest personalities. Four hundred tonnes of dirt will be shipped into the New Quay development site on Docklands Drive and riders are expected to reach massive elevation jumps of twenty to thirty feet, whilst attempting mid-air tail whips, bar spins and front flips. Several Australians are amongst the highest ranked BMX Dirt riders in the world so the Backbone BMX Dirt event will definitely be a World Class competition.
Previous BMX Games have drawn thousands of spectators and with this dynamic new location at Melbourne’s Docklands and the Australia Day long weekend timing, there is expected to be over 12,000 spectators coming to check out the games.
Major international riders are also competing across the three disciplines of Park/Street, Flatland and Dirt, and the official list of competitors will be released in the coming weeks.
