Winning the final European round in Dessel, Belgium felt so good… Like I told you before, my race results this year were not there yet, but giving up is not an option! Last weekend we went to Dessel, Belgium for the final rounds of the European Championships.
Because I missed too much European rounds, I don’t count in the ranking. The team and I just raced a few rounds to get or stay in the race flow.
Dessel is a pretty small track for us Elite Men’s. Besides the track, the starting hill is 2 meters high instead of 8 meters like I used to at the Supercross track Papendal. It was a big switch, but during the weekend I felt better and better.
Saturday EC round 11: The sun was out and a lot of spectators were there. Racing felt good, but the track and probably the sun felt more tiring than I expected. Everything went okay till the Semi Final. I had an elbow fight out the gate with
Caleyron from France. He was a little faster, so I had nowhere to go. I did everything I could, but 5th wasn’t enough. Angry, disappointed feelings for not making the final again…
Sunday EC round 12: Another sunny day and even more fans came to Dessel. I promised myself to have fun on my bike even I had those angry, disappointed feelings… My body felt tired, but somehow racing went pretty smooth the whole day and some good battles. Finally I was back in the final again. I had a pretty strong gate from lane 4. My teammate
Twan made a small mistake on the inside, so I was able to take over the lead. Close racing into the first and second turn, but from there it was me up front and nobody could pass me.
It’s awesome to win again after some disappointed races the last couple of months, especially this last race before the Worlds in New Zealand next week! Like to say thanks to my team, sponsors, family, friends and fans for keep having faith in me!
I’m travelling to Auckland, New Zealand this week. Racing will be next weekend July 27-28th.
Keep you posted.
