The latest Eurobike trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany was the biggest one ever. Even for BMX it had quite a bit to offer. Usually it's the same few big brands that show the new product but the 2006 version of it had the biggest ('core) German BMX distributors (Allride, G&S, La Finca, Unity) display their new stuff. Some had a booth outside (Allride, KingKong, Kuwahara, Perv and they were lucky with the super weather in Friedrichshafen. It was a stacked show which had over 31,000 trade visitors, 19,684 visitors on the Open House Day and 1,064 journalists from 32 countries.
Is it me or are there more Baco-a-go-go events per year? Anyway, the next fun BMX jam is happening on the weekend of 27-29 October 2006 at Chad de Groot's Mesh Park in Florida. Friday is all day open practice and sign-up for pros and amateurs. On Saturday we wonder who will make it to pro practice at 12 PM. Not Osato. We figure he's going to show up and put his helmet on at 13:50pm, that's ten minutes before the pro street comp starts. We're also guessing that he's going to make the cut anyway and if not, he'll be at the bar but it's a good guess you can meet him there whether he made the final or not. On with the program: 6pm will be the Open Bowl session. Osato will be rolling smooth at this time. Dave will be cheering on the Tony Crash Stunt show at 8pm and then jump in a special Halloween costume for the official party.
The ams get to ride on Sunday. 10 am practice. 12pm there's a break
New York, NY — On Sunday, September 24th, 11am to 5pm, the Scion Xposed lifestyle event is coming to Field 5 at Jones Beach, on Long Island, New York. The event will feature one of the largest gatherings of Scions on the east coast - many customized with turbos, superchargers, exotic rims, and custom paint jobs - as well as a long list of activities designed for Scion owners and those new to the Scion world. Besides the display of cool and custom metal, a hot line-up of DJs (DJ Premier from Gang Starr and DJ Evil Dee) and a B-boy exhibition will provide plenty of aural and visual entertainment.
This upcoming weekend will be a busy one again for BMX. The Eastpak crew is on tour in Greece, Paul's Boutique will take his team on a trip, the FSO jam is happening over in Amsterdam, NL and also the DirtE19 crew in Belgium are inviting everyone to ride some dirt. The Braun spine ramp will be set up at the IFMA trade show for a Bulls spine mini ramp contest in Cologne, Germany and if you live in the UK and want to participate at the Backyard jam later this year, you can go up to Scotland for a qualifier. Huntington Beach is once again the

On Sunday the first real Helm Jam took place in, well, Helmond. The place is pretty incredible. It's a legal dirt jump spot supported by the local council that helps keep kids on the right track. The 35 truckloads of dirt have been modified into several sections of doubles, berms and tables (and a spine) and the starting hill recently received some stairs. Several dustbins are placed and some blocks to chill on. Getting support from the local council is nice, it's so much better than hoping your trails are still there when you show up. 2 big signs with rules were placed last week so everyone knows what to do and what to expect. We don't need to explain that maintaining a dirt spot takes endless work. It's just the way it is and there is not much you can do about it, especially at a public place like the Helm trails where anyone can show up and ride for free.
The Helm Jam was pushed forward by Mike van de Kerkhof who got enough people inspired to have a good day of riding together. The poor solo speaker was abused all day long by Mr. D, it was possible to buy some drinks and some food. The local kids had two pimped bikes for sale (10 Euros each) and two big trophies were waiting for the winners of the high jump and best trick contests.
A few years ago, we only had a few contests in Europe. The world famous FAT JAM in The Netherlands, the King of Concrete in the UK and the BMX Freestyle Worlds somewhere in Europe. Since that, things have changed dramatically and there is a BMX contest almost every weekend of the year and during the summer time, we can choose from multiple contests and jams each weekend. There are big contests with a fixed time schedule and there are contests like the BMX BOK Series in Deventer: no pressure on the time schedule, just relaxing, chilling and some bmx riding with your bmx buddies.
The qualifiers were scheduled to start around 2.00 PM, but of course not all riders had shown up yet. Approx 3 hrs later Herm and Paul decided to start the qualifiers. The qualifiers were in a jam format, where riders could earn a place in the finals by proving their BMX skills with their best tricks. Riders who qualified earned a really ugly tie, of which 12 were available. During the qualifiers it showed that Daniel Wedemeier and Franky "Kruimel" Elshof had their tricks wired:
Achim Kujawski is putting on the second Verthaus jam in Oberhausen with support from adidas, Red Bull and Eastpak . Last year's edition was a success and all vert riders had a great time. It doesn't happen too often that you can just ride with your friends at an indoor place on a decent ramp (it's a vertical-Red Bull halfpipe).
