The club was already packed. I ordered three drinks and was $25,= usd poorer. Next move was to "score" some drink tickets from the RIDE employees and I'd like to thank them for the hook-ups. The NORA Cup awards were presented at 10pm. The big screen showed a video of every rider first and then one of BMX's celebrities opened the envelope and the rider was asked to climb up on the stage and give a short speach.
Around this time RIDE's drink tickets had done their job and the whole thing seemed like a blur. If I remember right I saw the Gonz on stage wearing a wig (what the hell was he doing there?), the trophy girls were ignored, Chad de Groot had to rush his speech to catch a plane home and the crowd got lowder and lowder.
Racer of the year went to: Mike Day. Mike got 2nd at the UCI World's in Paris and finished in the #1 spot in NBL this year so with him picking up the Cup I think nobody had a problem with it. Not even Dale Holmes who was one of the nominees.
Flatland rider of the year: Terry Adams.
Ramp rider of the year: Morgan Wade
Street rider of the year: Corey Martinez
Dirt rider of the year: Corey Bohan
Best video part: Morgan Wade
Morgan Wade is a badass winning two cups on one evening. Congrats to all of the riders.
At midnight the bar was closed. Those who had drink tickets left (not me) were bumming but the round bar at the Hardrock Casino was still open. We were getting used to the limo rides and had 7 people in a stretched vehicle going to the Hardrock. It was actually cheaper than a regular cab so don't expect us to show up in a limousine wherever we go.
